Another very good day at the WDYTYA? Live Show

We got to the show for the 2nd day just before opening time at 9.30am and were all amazed by the number of people queued outside. We decided to wait for the queue to come to us, else we would have been walking halfway back to the hotel! As quickly as they went inside the hordes dissipated to all four corners and both levels of the exhibition so that it didn't seem too busy and there was certainly plenty of space to move, surprisingly.

I wasn't sure how I would fill in a second day, but I was pleasantly surprised by the number of stands I found that I hadn't really looked at the first day.

Amazing first day of the show

Well, what an amazing first day at the WDYTYA? Live event in London. I can't believe the size of this event and would hate to estimate the numbers attending. I am told on good authority that attendance is at a record high. Just goes to show how many people are keen to know where they come from and just who they are.

Whilst standing in the queue to get inside, we were thrilled by a short, small snow shower. Fortunately, we were all dressed warmly as the weather is still very very cold, with the wind chill factor making it seem colder, if that's possible!

WDYTYA? Live in London - Anticipation is high

What a wonderful day we had yesterday, in preparation for the first day of the WDYTYA? Live event today. Chris Paton from Scotland's Greatest an interesting and lively workshop for the 4 ladies and myself, attending for the first time from Australia. We are now feeling much better prepared to head off to the biggest family history event in the World, and look forward with anticipation to the treasures that await to be discovered.

Chris was ably supported by Gill Blanchard from Past Search

Only 44 days till we leave for the WDYTYA? Live Event!

The countdown is on!

I picked up the travel documents from my travel agent today, so it feels like it is getting very close now. After our visitors leave this week, I shall put my suitcase on the spare bed and start to throw items of clothing into it, as I think about what to take to London. it will be a very different experience this time, as I am used to packing for the English Summer and now I have to think instead about what to pack for the Winter, and we are in the middle of our Summer. I hope my brain can cope with this!

Day 1 of Ancestral Touring

We headed away from London, not very far into Surrey where Rosalie has ancestral history. We were very excited as it is always an adventure to find these places hidden away in tiny little hamlets and villages. Our expectations were exceeded!

Meeting up with our researcher in this area, Rosemary Morgan, Rosalie was presented with a book from a local Chipstead author Frances O'Donnell which I am sure she will treasure.

3 churches, 3 open churches, 3 open churches with someone who knew about the history of the church and one who knew the family.

London, we love you!

So, the weather is not great here in London, but that's not stopping us from getting around.

What a great day we had yesterday. We decided to walk instead of using public transport so that we could really experience this great city. Starting out from our accommodation just after breakfast we wandered through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park to Buckingham Palace for the changing of the guard. It never disappoints, and even if you've seen it before, the atmosphere is amazing and there is always something to enjoy about it.

Start of UK tour today

I'm here in London! Today I meet up with the 2 lovely ladies who are joining me on this trip for the next 13 days.

Rosalie has been off on her own adventure for 3 weeks and we are catching up at her hotel in London to transfer her to our hotel here in Notting Hill this morning. Rosalie was on my Ireland tour last year and also spent 5 nights with us at the start of the England tour before heading off to France and other places of interest. The flexibility of Customised Heritage Tours means we are able to accommodate most of our guests requirements.

2012 Tours

Hi there,

What an interesting time I have had over the last few weeks, organising our overseas trips for this year!

Now I can say, we have an initial itinerary for Scotland and England and it is very interesting to note the parallels with our guests. This happens all the time, we get guests booking on our tours and they have no apparent connection, yet when we do the research and start to track our itinerary, the places we are visiting for our guests are within a few kilometres of each other. I just love it!
