What a wonderful day we had yesterday, in preparation for the first day of the WDYTYA? Live event today. Chris Paton from Scotland's Greatest Story www.scotlandsgreateststory.co.uk led an interesting and lively workshop for the 4 ladies and myself, attending for the first time from Australia. We are now feeling much better prepared to head off to the biggest family history event in the World, and look forward with anticipation to the treasures that await to be discovered.
Chris was ably supported by Gill Blanchard from Past Search http://www.pastsearch.co.uk/ who contributed a lot about her experiences with the show as well as some really useful general genealogy information. I could see the pencils flying as my guests were trying to take it all in. When Chris left to fulfill other commitments, we were joined by Kate Henderson from Relatively Speaking http://www.relativelyspeaking-derbyshire.co.uk/
The afternoon was spent with one-on-ones to determine an individual research plan for each and we also had a bit of fun with some Archaic words. The challenge was put out, so here we go! Today we will be 'Sloming through the Hubbleshoo'! Let's just hope nobody ends up 'Sprottling', it could be dangerous, for a translation, come back tomorrow. Thanks Kate for this fun look at the English language.
What a wealth of useful information all of these lovely generous people are and what a difference it makes for my guests to know they are fully supported in their research efforts in a "foreign" environment.
I am looking forward to meeting some fabulous people today and over the next 3 days, I'll update you on the show tomorrow.
